Mr.Watkins has been a commercial real estate appraiser for over 20 years and has an extensive educational background in real estate. He has completed complex commercial and special purpose assignments on properties in 35 states, but has spent most of his career working in California and Texas. Mr. Watkins has worked as a senior appraiser/manager for some of the larger real estate and financial institutions in the United States and has served as a Principal/Manager with a national real estate accounting/consulting firm specializing in affordable housing. In addition, Mr. Watkins has been a speaker at national conferences and has written articles pertaining to the affordable housing industry.
Mr. Watkins holds a senior level position as Vice President of the Special Practice Group with Pacific Appraisers. The primary emphasis of this role is to focus on the valuation of affordable housing, hospitality, golf courses and larger complex assignments. In addition, Mr. Watkins reviews work for and mentors associate level appraisers.
Prior to joining Pacific Appraisers, Mr. Watkins was an Associate Director in the Austin office of Cushman & Wakefield where he provided his expertise in the affordable housing market and on very high profile commercial appraisals. Prior to that he was a Principal in the Austin and San Francisco offices of Novogradac & Company where he worked exclusively in the affordable housing industry. While with Novogradac, he opened offices in Austin and San Francisco. Mr. Watkins managed both offices and reviewed work completed by a full time staff of professional appraisers from 2000 to 2005. In addition, Mr. Watkins held high level positions with GMAC Commercial Mortgage and Bank of America throughout the 1990s. While with Bank of America, Mr. Watkins was responsible for the appraisal and/or review of large multi-million dollar properties in the State of California. He managed, engaged and reviewed third party appraisals on a variety of property types including all hotel, resort and golf course appraisals completed in California. During the 1980s Mr. Watkins was the co-owner and Vice President of a successful commercial appraisal company in Dallas Texas known as First Appraisal Group. The company had ten full-time employees and completed appraisals for various lending institutions primarily in the state of Texas. Responsibilities included appraisal review, training, marketing and office management until selling the company to a national firm in 1992.
